How to arrived
The purpose of this page is to give you some indications about how to arrive in Venezuela and particularly to Margarita Island. Regular Airlines operate flights originating from cities in Europe, North America and the Caribbean to Caracas International Airport and Margarita int'l Airport.

The Aeropostal (VH) and Air Aruba (FQ) companies operate direct flights from Miami to Margarita Island. Ask your local travel agency.

DOMESTIC AIRLINES Several domestic flights operate from Caracas (CRS) to Margarita Island (PMV). The duration of the flight is about 40 minutes. The main domestic airlines are: AEROPOSTAL (VH) LASER (LER) ASERCA (AS) AVENSA (VC-VE) AIR VENEZUELA (AV)

The cost of the plane ticket from Caracas to Margarita Island round trip is about 80-120 US$.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
At the time of your arrival to Caracas International airport, passengers will have to recover their luggage (no luggage transit between international and national airport). In addition, it is important to calculate a stopover of 2h30 between the arrival of your international flight and the correspondence for the national flight to Margarita Island (custom formalities, luggage…). The distance that separates both airports is short, 5 minutes walking distance.

MONEY:
The Venezuela currency is the Bolivar with a FIXED exchange rate based on the US dollars. Foreign currencies or traveler’s checks cannot be exchanged at banks or exchange houses (there is a new law which has not been approved). Most shops and restaurants do accept international credit cards; if they accept them most add you 10 % of extra charge for the use of your credit cards. The system to check the cards is not very reliable. Don't travel without cash (better traveler's cheques!).

WEATHER:
Margarita is located outside the route of storms and hurricanes, so this permits the island to be far away of this kind of danger. The annual average of rainfalls is very low and the climate is warm with an average of 27°C (85°F). The gentle breeze that constantly blows across the Island makes you unaware of the heat of the sun. The island offers up magnificent and widely varied landscapes. The rich vegetation of verdant valleys close by the capital contrasts with the arid side of Macanao's Peninsula.

Electricty
In Venezuela is 110V/60Hz two phases.

Water
The water from the pipe is not drinkable, the bodegas sell mineral water.

EL YAQUE basic informations
El Yaque is located (see Margarita map ) about 5 km (9 km street) from the airport. It a small village, that use to live from fishing. About 12 years ago it was discovered by few Canadians. The extremly good and constant wind (see wind report), brought first windsurfers and lateley as well kitesurfers. El Yaque has  12 Hotels, aproximatly 15 Restaurants, 2 Surf Shops, 3 Bodegas (small super market ), one internet cafe, 7 windsurf schools, 5 kite schools, one taxi stand, one kinergarten (child care),  one sail maker- doese small and big kite & sail repairs.
